While this time of the year isn’t one that we normally equate with farm work, it certainly can have a large impact on how we approach work once the spring thaw hits. For example, some farmers like to treat their fields around now so that the nutrients can settle into the land over the winter. Others have the good luck of being in locations that don’t really feel the chill that so many of us do during these next few months. Whatever your involvement with farm equipment at this point in the calendar may be, I think we can all agree that making sure everything is nice and clean is basically your main priority.

One of the main reasons that we think of to wash out farm equipment is the dirt and fertilizer that can stick to the machines. This can then cause cross contamination. It is also true that if you have one piece of equipment working multiple fields, you want to make sure they are washed between jobs to make sure that you don’t end up with wheat in your soy fields or something along those lines. Another big reason to make sure everything is washed is simply because of how well your equipment will work.

Think about trying to turn a crank when it has been sitting unused for years. Even if the item isn’t rusted just trying to contend with the dust can be a bit of a nightmare. Think about a piece of equipment that is out in the dirt all day long not being properly cleaned. This would only get progressively more difficult to use just like that crank that you are trying to turn. The buildup of dirt would eventually render the crank inoperable, just like your piece of farm equipment.

The reasons that you should wash your farm equipment every chance that you get are as numerous as the stars in the sky, but here at Neptune we think that these two reasons are more than enough to warrant you getting one of our automated wash systems. If you are in an area where the ground freezes, then you should certainly get one so that you can put your equipment away for the winter. Give us a call and we can tell you which system will work best for your company.
